About VIN Archive
VIN Archive is an independent, searchable archive of vehicle salvage-auction records, looked up by VIN. It shows what auction sources published about a vehicle: dates, photographs, damage, odometer readings, title documents and bids.
What is in the archive
The archive currently holds 9,569,092 auction records across 72 makes and model years 1938–2027. Records sharing a VIN are combined into one report with a timeline of every auction appearance known to us.
New records are added continuously; active lots are refreshed until bidding closes, archived ones when the source changes them.
Where the data comes from
Records originate from publicly published salvage-auction listings (primarily Copart and IAAI), obtained through third-party auction-data providers, and are reproduced as the source published them. We do not inspect vehicles and add no condition assessments of our own.
VIN Archive is independent. We are not affiliated with Copart, IAAI or any other auction platform and do not act on their behalf; their names and trademarks belong to their owners and are used only to identify the source of a record.
Who it is for
Used-vehicle buyers and importers who want to see what happened to a car at auction before a purchase; owners checking what has been published about their vehicle; anyone studying the salvage-auction market.
A report is reference material, not an expert opinion. No record in the archive does not mean a vehicle has had no damage or sales; a record does not replace an inspection.
Removing records
A vehicle owner, or another person connected to a VIN, can ask for its records to be withheld from public view. A person reviews every request; approved requests hide the pages but do not destroy the data or the decision trail, so we can always answer who withheld a record and on what grounds.
